Breath from Underground

Longing to gasp one last breath
You tore the mask bearing the words
"Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness“
Into the grave with you
To expose the ugly white face.

Life smiles
Liberty smiles
Happiness smiles
Even justice smiles
Human rights also smiles
Broadly and as a breeze
At the power house of the world
And frowns the skin and kin
When the powerless
Begs for free air to breath…

A mechanized voice says –
“You can’t breath our air
We never sell it to you
Its not free
And you can never buy it too…
Its our air, it’s ours …
You can never demand
You can never protest
Revolt is forbidden
Never be angry on us
For anger is our right!”

Someday, strongly and fiercely
The suppressed will upraise
Roam around the streets freely
Oh! Run … run –
Bad mouthed hawks
Grinning the beaks with
Snippets of flesh and
Dripping blood …
Missiles and bombs
Under the claws …
Run … run … deep down inside …
Gulp in the air …
Breath hurriedly
Save your air for tomorrow
Breath carefully
And hold breath to hold the life
Now –
Bunkers are the only safe home!
